Anyone who has been to the Newport International Boat Show knows that the folks who run that event are a class act. So it only makes sense, then, that they would finally take over the Newport Charter Yacht Show, which will sweep into Newport Yachting Center June 18-22, 2012. The charter yacht show has been around for three decades, but it's only been hosted at Newport Yachting Center, where the Newport Exhibition Group also stages its September boat show, for the past three years.
"The Newport Charter Yacht Show has a solid foundation and will synergize perfectly with our company's expertise in the yachting industry," said Tom DeLotto, director of the Newport Exhibition Group, in a statement. "Our 2012 show will pivot around a world-class display of luxury yachts available for charter as well as the services and amenities available to support yachts and their crews." In addition to charter yachts between 80' and more than 225', the Newport Charter Yacht Show will feature on-land exhibitors, forums, and seminars all catering to the captains, crews, and potential guests aboard the yachts. A special emphasis of next year's show will be on new products and technology.
It is no coincidence that the charter yacht show will immediately precede the America's Cup World Series event being held in Newport June 23-July 1; this race series is already expected to draw many superyachts to the harbor, and the yacht show will be an ideal opportunity to showcase similar luxury yachts while the sailing world's eyes are focused on Rhode Island.
