NEWPORT, RI – On August 5, 2009 agreement was reached between Trumpy®Yachts and Alex Suarez, Managing Partner of Classic Yacht Partners to build a dramatic new 125’ (38 meter) Trumpy inspired by John Trumpy’s pre-war designs. Johan Trumpy said, “When we decided to re-launch our brand and business, we believed very strongly that thoughtful yachtsmen would respond to our products. Mr. Suarez has more than met that assumption. With his help, we have dramatically enhanced the 125’ Trumpy and will be building one of the most elegant yachts that I have ever been involved with.” The new owner Alex Suarez, of Classic Yacht Partners in Atlanta, Georgia has created a yacht share company to capitalize on the new realities of large yacht ownership. “When I first met with Johan and Jim Ewing, CEO of Trumpy Yachts, at the Palm Beach Show, it was obvious that they had the vision and the relationship with Vicem Yachts to build the kind of yachts our clients and new business required. The 125 is the first of two substantial Trumpy’s we are building for our yacht equity program.”

The three naval architects who started the naval architecture firm Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. got into the business because they loved to create something from scratch. Designing a boat to fit a specific need and do a particular job is what they love, and they have invested all their passion, knowledge and experience in their new line of family fishing and cruising boats. Greg Beers, P.E., Cory Wood and Andrew Tyska have been designing boats in Bristol, Rhode Island since 1995. They have designed everything from barges to a 20 foot runabout with 129 foot fast ferries and 85 foot tugboats in between. “No matter what we are building,” Wood explained, “we always look at the boat as our client. Owner’s specifications, Coast Guard regulations and manufacturer’s capabilities are all part of the process, but ending up with a great boat is the bottom line.” Beers, Wood and Tyska, classmates at the University of Michigan’s prestigious Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, built their thriving design firm one client at a time. When Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. was firmly established with a total of seven employees and a full schedule of commercial vessel and yacht design, they decided to look for a new challenge. “We looked at the boats available in the small cruiser market and felt there was a niche we could fill,” explained Tyska. “”For over ten years we’ve been fulfilling other people’s dreams and now, with Bristol Harbor Boats, Inc. we like to say: It’s your turn!” With classic lines, a comfortable ride and an attractive price, the first of the 21 foot center console models was finished at Bristol Harbor Boats, Inc.’s facility, in June of 2006. The line will include a 19 foot center console and 21 foot to 27 foot models that the client can order either as a center console or as an express cruiser. “When we were drawing these boats, refining the lines and looking for the perfect place to build them, I kept a picture in my mind,” said Beers. “The picture is a grandfather or a young family with kids who are curious about the water. I see them out on a misty morning cruising across the harbor and stopping to fish. I see them spending time together out in nature, and at the end of the day I see them being able to put the boat back up on the trailer. Our boats will be the same price as a nice minivan and I hope that they will help lots of people get on the water who might not have thought they could.”

Nick Eide, Seth Hagen and Carter Richardson were drawn to Rhode Island to attend the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport. Dedicated to traditional methods of yacht restoration, IYRS provided an ideal atmosphere for an extensive education in all things wooden boat; from project management to survey and assessment, lofting and planking to fine joinery. Nick, Seth and Carter, as IYRS graduates, enter the wooden boat community with not only the theory, but the hands on experience necessary to build, repair, and restore traditional wooden boats. Nick Eide’s work experience has included the restoration of an 1896 Lawley Knock-About Aspenet, J.P. Morgan’s Herreshoff built motor launch Corsair and building a replica of a Lawley built lapstrake tender. His larger boat experience has come from the likes of the 104 foot Mathis Trumpy motor yacht Freedom and Scout, a 73 foot commuter yacht. Having an interest in metal work, an important element in traditional wooden boat construction, Nick completed extensive internships with Garden Gate Blacksmiths and The Mystic River Foundry. Nick is continually developing his own specialized tools for the trade. Seth Hagen has been working in the wooden boat field for seven years and has been fortunate to work on many famous designs including the Beetle Cat, the Nantucket One Design, and various Herreshoff designs, including the 12 1/2, the S-Class, the New York 30, and two 1920’s motor launches. His hands also lent to the restoration of William Gardner’s Mariner 40, L.F. Herreshoff’s Araminta, and the Sparkman & Stephen’s yawl Blackwatch. He also worked on the 1885 schooner Coronet documenting and removing the interior as well as performing the background research. Carter Richardson partnered with Nick at IYRS on the customary Beetle Cat restoration and took part in researching and restoring a Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 15. Before graduating from IYRS, he collaborated with another student in building an 11 1/2 foot Herreshoff Columbia Lifeboat. Carter has worked alongside Nick on the motor yachts Scout and Freedom as well as contributing in the restoration of a Herreshoff Watch Hill 15, Fish Class sloop and the Nevins’ built New York 32.
